Vocational mentoring is a process that empowers you to own your unique gifts, skills, and passions and to discern the path by which they can be most fully manifested in the real world.

Beginning the Journey      Vocational mentoring starts from the inside and works its way out. To begin, you will engage in a process of self discovery and reflection. What are you most passionate about? What are your needs and values? What is your personality style and what kinds of work environments bring out your best? Envisioning a Future Vocation      As you reflect and gain insight, a sense of possibilities for your vocation will begin to emerge ... To further refine these options, you will begin to research employment opportunities in the real world and see how they line up with your inner sense of vocation. This will be a time of actively networking with other professionals for ideas and feedback. You will become connected to a new community of your peers who share your values and interests, and they will become an important part of finding your life's work.

Roadblocks along the Way      Another important part of our work together is clearing away the roadblocks on your vocational path. These may manifest as 'inner' blocks such as confusion, self doubt, procrastination, etc., or they may manifest as 'outer' blocks, such as lack of money, family obligations, lack of opportunity, etc. You will be empowered to see these so called impediments as opportunities to heal old issues and test your mettle.

Finding your Way in the 'Real World'      Besides the passion and courage of our hearts, we need the ingenuity, skill, and cunning of our minds to manifest our dream of meaningful work in the real world of paychecks, bills, and obligations to others. As your mentor, I will encourage and enable you to use your head to find the best practical means to make your dreams come true. This will mean finding ways to articulate (to sell) your vision to others, get financing, fine tune to your potential market niches, negotiate compensation, etc. etc., etc.

Making midcourse adjustments, Refining the Vision      Usually a sense of vocation is not complete when you first set out on the path to its fruition. The journey  towards your goals with its twists and turns and surprises will challenge your original vision. I will help you to see what these offer to you in terms of opportunities to rethink and to refine your vision. Continuing the Journey       Typically, we see the journey as a straight line from the beginning to the goal. In reality, it is usually a lot richer and more complex than this. As your mentor, I  will encourage you to look upon this enterprise as a life long journey that will continue to evolve as you grow and mature.
