My Philosophy

I have been following  a conscious spiritual path for some 35 years. During this time, I have been exposed to many religious traditions, spiritual practices, theories of psychology, and self help techniques.  In all of this, I have taken to heart what the Buddha said: do not believe something because someone more senior, more advanced, or more famous than you said it is true. Believe it because it conforms to your own experience. Jesus in a similar vein said : Be a light unto yourselves.

I truly believe, that there is no single way for all of us varied individuals to free ourselves from the yoke of our own ignorance and bondage. Because of this, I am interested in exploring with my clients what spiritual and psychological ideas and practices are meaningful and liberating for them. And beyond that, there is the  reexamination and deconstruction of the beliefs and values that we have gotten from our families, our peers, and our society.

Spiritual work is not just a head game, confined to changing our beliefs or learning new information. It concerns changing our minds, our hearts, and our behavior. This is not easy work, consequently it requires effort and commitment on our part. Paradoxically, it also requires us to allow something greater than ourselves to aid us in this endeavor. We can't do it alone. And while it is challenging work it also brings great joy as we lighten up, let go, and let God lead us.

My job in working with you is first and foremost to be a companion on your unique spiritual journey. We invite Spirit into our work together, for your relation to the Divine is most important. I come to our work with an expectation that you are committed to your journey. Spiritual work is the most challenging (and rewarding) work that we humans do and requires a deep level of truthfulness and vulnerability. There is also is a place for playfulness and humor to show up when we are getting too heavy and serious.
